Erik de Vries was een van de bekendste pioniers van de Nederlandse televisie. Zijn archief bevat kopieën en originele bescheiden over de ontwikkeling van dit medium bij het Natuurkundig Laboratorium van de NV Philips, de eerste experimentele uitzendingen in de regio Eindhoven (PET) in de jaren 1948-1951 en de eerste landelijke uitzendingen in 1951. Een aanzienlijk deel van het archief betreft zijn werk als adviseur bij het opzetten van televisiestations in het buitenland (m.n. Zuid-Amerika) en in Nederland (lokale en regionale televisie). Naast deze meer technische aspecten laat het archief ook de meer inhoudelijke kanten van de televisie zien. Zo zijn er draaiboeken, decorschetsen en correspondentie uit de periode waarin De Vries als regisseur werkzaam was voor vrijwel alle Nederlandse omroepen. Verder bevat het archief materiaal over de introductie van commerciele televisie, over de oprichting van TELEAC (educatieve televisie) en over het Interkerkelijk Overleg Nederland, waarvan hij lange tijd directeur was. Vermeldenswaard zijn verder het dagboek en andere aantekeningen, bijgehouden in interneringskampen tijdens de Japanse bezetting van Nederlands-Indië. Het archief van echtgenote Hans Snoek bevat o.m. dagboeken, bijgehouden tijdens de buitenlandse reizen die ze met haar man heeft ondernomen.
